Hey, Do You Know: Carrot Vacation Club?

Here I have Carrot Vacation Club for you all. This band was actually recommended for me to check out, and I like them. I enjoyed the opening for their show, their music is quite refreshing from my usual taste. I really like the robot part in their opening, and their music is fun. They look like they are having fun with their fans, and that is what I like seeing. It's new for me to see 2 vocalists in a band, and it seems to be working wonderfully for them.  I LOVE their enthusiasm on the stage. Can I jump too?  I like watching ちり headbanging on the side to GARAGURU. That's one thing I LOVE doing at shows, don't you?

PV Analysis: nano - 'Sable'

The artist called nano first came to public attention in 2006 via YouTube under a few other names, impressing listeners with her distinct vocals. After a number of years as an artist on video sharing sites, she signed with a label in 2012. She has released 2 albums and a number of singles since then, the latest of which is mini-album 'Infinity≠Zero / Sable', an emotional call to personal revolution. The video includes some jarring effects shots to match the anguished lyrics, and imagery made more clear after some research.

The Weekly Quickie: BABYMETAL, MEMENTO MORI, landz., DIAURA, Alice 9

Hot off a string of North American appearances, teen metal mistresses BABYMETAL have announced they will be returning!  No specifics as of yet.  All we know is they plan to visit the US and the UK again starting sometime in November.  If you didn't catch them this time around, now's your chance.  In the meantime, check out fellow Lixx writer, James C. Stewart's live report from their show at Heavy Montreal.

Live Report: BABYMETAL at Heavy Montréal - August 9, 2014

BABYMETAL: METAL RESISTANCE MONTRÉAL

BABYMETAL CONQUERS HEAVY MONTRÉAL

AUGUST 9, 2014

photo taken from babymetal.net

                                Facts First: Montréal ROCKS.
                                Seriously and straight up.

It’s a surprisingly old city for North America, and extremely old for Canada. Areas of Montréal go back to the 17th century. The people are both kind and amazing, and the same was true at the Heavy Montréal Festival. An enormous venue sporting four stages in total, Heavy Montréal should be experienced just for the festival itself.

Montréal knows how to party, and in Jean Drapeau Parc August 9 & 10, 2014 the city partied hard. One of the images that remains tattooed onto my brain is that of a chaotic, if not perilous pit with a beer-tray-dude smack in the middle, tray held high over five hundred writhing bodies (conservative estimate), and beer-dude floating through magically and completely unscathed.

Con Report: ViViD Panel

ViViD's Q&A panel was held Friday afternoon before their live. The band was already seated at a long table at the front of the room when the small but excited group of fans was ushered in. They all looked dashing and cheerful, flashing wide smiles at the crowd as we shuffled in. I took a seat at the edge of the crowd, trying not to be distracted by the wild Ken-chan lurking about taking pictures and futzing with the sound (as an avid AGENT, this was difficult for me). Shion of Babel Entertainment acted as MC and with an enthusiastic "Let's kick it!" we got started.

Dan's Pick "コドモドラゴン (Codomo Dragon)"

コドモドラゴン (Codomo Dragon)

Formed in 2010, this band has been slowly gaining a little more popularity. You may have heard about these guys, since they share a record label and play shows with 己龍 and RoyZ.

Band memberrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs:
Vox: Hayato
Guitar: Kana
Guitar: Yume
Bass: meN-meN
Drums: Chamu

VIPER!!! I'm pretty stoked with this song. Boy howdy is it a few steps up since Nepenthes and Right Evil, both singles off of Children's Dope.

I love the way this song starts off. It fades in with meN-meN slapping some meeeeeeean bass, then bursts in with some poppy guitars (I especially love Yume's guitar here). Something I notice in this song already is the production is great. Nepenthes had some bad mixing I thought. The drums were reallly low in the mix. Not the case on Viper! Everything is mixed together well, but you can still zone in on any of the instruments.

I'm also really enjoying Hayto's vocals in this song. Something about the way he sings on this track. That's probably what stuck out on this song the most for me, that or the bass. The bass is super heavy and very dirty sounding. Which is a good thing! The guitars are excellent. Love the riffs and the solo. And the drums are definitely improved here. All around a winner for me! I'm very much looking forward to what this group comes out with next.

XENON Livestreaming Event

Mark your calenders, kids.  XENON clothing store in Little Tokyo, LA has announced another livestreaming Q&A and Cure snapshot event for September 13.  No official announcement on the artist yet, but they've posted a mysterious, dark photo.  If you squint at it, you can just make out.....

Who do you think?

Anyone else wish they would livestream the livestream?

PV Analysis: ONE OK ROCK - 'Mighty Long Fall'

Formed in 2005, ONE OK ROCK describes their style as a fusion of sorts, bringing emo, rock and metal together to create a new sound. Made up of members Taka (vocals), Ryota (bass), Toru (guitar) and Tomoya (drums), the band recently wrapped a North American tour with the Warped tour '14, and are heading off for Europe and South America in the fall. Their ninth single, 'Mighty Long Fall', theme from the live action movie "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno", features a PV depicting some massive destruction and beings of mythical proportions.

Hey, Do You Know: NOCTSCURE?

This week I have a band that I'm excited to introduce you to, called NOCTSCURE. They have a teaser clip of their music on their YouTube channel and that's where I first found them. I love the teaser, it makes me want to hear the whole thing and I'm sure others do too! The song just has me hooked, it's right up my alley and I love the growling part. They have their first single out called  'アウラ(AURA)' and will hold their first one man live 10/31 at Ikebukuro Black hole. The event has sold out!

Con Report: Orlando Nerd Fest

Can I just say...wow.  I've never been to a music festival of such epically nerdy proportions.  And I mean that in a good way.  Orlando Nerd Fest, held August 7-12, is the first of it's kind.  A music festival dedicated entirely to Nerd Core music and nerd culture.  Usually, first-time cons make me a little...nervous, but with an all-star lineup that included big names such as Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu, World of Warcraft composer, Jason Hayes, the crazy android band, Steam Powered Giraffe, and Nerd Core rapper MC Frontalot, you know it has to be good, so I went in with high expectations.  I have to say, despite a few minor frustrations that I'm sure will be cleared up by next year, I was not disappointed.

Shibuya Crossing Episode 039 LIVE Wednesday August 13!

Fresh Fruits, delightful Sweets, and a mixed bag of melodic treats await you on the next episode of Shibuya Crossing.

Following last week’s rock and roll journey through our vault of diverse tunes on Episode 38 - we annotate that trip with a unpredictable delightful mix that’s akin to a summer dessert. Somewhat fitting for an afternoon in August.

On Episode 39, we kick off our show with a melodic monotone mix of tracks to get you in the mood - with music from Ishige Akira, Plastic Tree, and Asian Kung-Fu Generation. We catch up on what’s happening on what has been a very busy couple of weeks in the world of J-Music. Plus our Artist Spotlight features not only one - but a combination of three artists from the fledgling Oshare Kei sub-genre.

And be sure to tune in next week too as we count down to our Season Finale on August 20th, as we switch gears and play the the best ethereal and emotionally inducing J-Rock ballads out there. If you got any tips, you know where to find us.

But for now, keep it locked in! A lovely bowl of dessert is coming up on the next Shibuya Crossing. From CJLO 1690AM.

Wednesday, August 13th at 1pm EST at CJLO.com (1690AM in Montreal), and 3pm On Demand at http://cjlo.com/?q=shows/shibuya-crossing.

Fashion Fraction: Focus On [Lolita] -Part 1-

Hello readers, Taka here again to give you your dose of fashion here on Project: Lixx!

Time to open up the "Focus On..." articles where I open up a specific genre of fashion amongst the community and dissect it as thoroughly as I can... which means these may be in a few parts.
The current focus? Lolita and it's various subgenres.

Before I begin the discussion, I must provide a disclaimer. I am not a lolita. I do not part-take in lolita fashion very often. I tend to prefer a specific type of lolita. So, all in all, I am not an expert on lolita. If I say anything that is wrong or that you think I missed, please let me know! And also a giant THANK YOU to the providers of some of the picture examples for today's article: Krystal D. and Stephanie R (and friends).

So I was looking through my Twitter and found these guys in my suggested follows. They look pretty cool, right? So I said why not and gave them a shot. Man, am I ever happy I did. Fixer is definitely worth the time to listen to them, check them out if you have never heard of them before. So far I like all their songs on their single 'Dawn'; I'll suggest 2 songs for you I love - 'Drop' and  'Shadow'. These 2 are my favorite because I like heavy songs, and maybe you do too? The Weekly Quickie: MEJIBRAY, YOSHIKI, BORN, GREIVA, UNiTE

Good news for MEJIBRAY fans!  It has been announced via their OHP that drummer Meto will be making his grand return at their one man live at Namiki Junction on September 8!  Meto has been conspicuously absent from band events after a nasty fall back in May that left him hospitalized, resulting in the postponement of their summer tour.  He has already begun participating in recording sessions and expects to be performance ready soon.
